Cinnamon get involved in one of the most important conversations of our life
As a society we don’t talk openly about some of the things that are most important. Conversations for Life and The Monastery Manchester hosted a one-day event on the 10th of October to help us ask the questions that mean so much to each of us but that we put aside – How do we want to live the last days of our lives? What’s important to us between now and then? How can we partner with family, healthcare and community to get the care we want?
50% of us are caring for an aging family member right now. 50% of us have had a loved one die this year alone. The majority of us would prefer to die at home, yet only a minority of us do. Complaints about end of life care are some of the largest in healthcare.
With 17 years experience as an international healthcare educator and community facilitator, Mary Matthiesen, Director of Conversations for Life, facilitated a truly engaging event to discuss why and how we can do this differently. Mary was joined by Magi Ashton, Director of Public Health for Lancashire and delegates were a varied mix of general public, health care professionals, community volunteers and carers.
Stacy Hurley says, “It was an amazing event for Cinnamon to be involved in. The tone of the day had to be just right and with such a sensitive topic, we had to ensure each delegate was cared for in exactly the right way. It really was an honour to be a part of such an inspiring and worthwhile event”
